The following sequence of eleven shots taken within two seconds shows the Riverside Park Dad obtaining a fairly large branch for his nest. He did not use his beak at all for the entire process. I have not noticed this with any of the hawks I observed over the years until the Riverside Park Mom began using this technique last season when her beak was injured.

It certainly is faster than biting, and the product doesn't appear to be compromised in any way.

What a couple!
