On a bright sunny day like this it’s hard to look out of the wide glass panes of my workplace and see the patches of blue sky draped above the dreary brown buildings of midtown knowing that there are sparrows singing in the azaleas behind the Hawk Bench unable to hear those soothing songs. It’s hard also not to see those feisty mallards splashing in the pond and creating little rainbows with their wings. Big Louie must also be perched on a low sycamore branch catching some of this sun on his handsome face. I can almost see Waldo the squirrel, running across a higher branch on the same sycamore and stopping suddenly to have a good scratch.
Fortunately when last I saw them all their singing and their faces were so delightful that I feel I can still hear those sweet sparrow songs and I still can see the mallards splashing, and the rainbows on Big Louie’s neck are just magnificent.
I console myself that soon I’ll be able to spend some time somewhere in the park just to find a quiet nook perhaps shaded by a leafy oak where I can lean against it and willfully loose my unhappy thoughts in the cherry worlds of the little wild creatures hopping and scuttling around and over me.
Hopefully the branches of that oak would not be too leafy so I can view some open sky and see the free paths that it offers to those special friends I go there to admire. Maybe he or she will sail over me and lift me as they have so often done before if only for a moment tug on the heavy thoughts which anchor me to the ground.

My little five year old friend Maggie has been employed to make a big wish for Pale Male & Lola so they can have babies this year. She will also be using some magic to help things along. The world may dish out a lot of gloom and despair at times but the same world created special people like Maggie to help keep some hope alive. Work that magic Maggie!
